Indianapolis 500 for the 10th time, and the fith consecutive
year. In 1978, the Corvette was chosen for the first time
for pace car duties at the most prestigious race in America,
the Indianapolis 500. Former winner Jim Rathmann drove the
basicly stock dramatic black and silver 1978 Corvette in front
of the field of 33 where Al Unser Sr. won his third Indy 500.
in Black & Silver commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the
1978 edition and a customized Corvette Concept powered by E85
Ethanol promoting GM's alternative fuels program. 500 copies of
the black and silver version will be built, all equipped with
exhaust system, choice of manual or automatic transmissions,
two-tones titanium colored interior, si with the Indianapolis 500
logo embroidered in the seats, silver checkered flag exterior
graphics, and Indy 500 fender badges. Pace cqaes will be offered
in coupe or convertible versions, with the 3LT option package
The Commemorative Pace Cars will be signed by former Indy
500 winner and ethanol producer Emerson Fitipaldi.
Z06 will serve as a second pace car toe the 82nd Running of the
Indianapolis 500. E85 is a renewable energy made from organic
resources produced in the United States.
